What all do you include in the sports scene?
Any sport is valid for the sports scene’s recognition, its just not likely that croquet, or badminton will frequent the articles too often. The main sports are football, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and golf. These are the topics that I feel are most pertinent, most people are interested in hearing tidbits about these sports.
Why did you create this blog?
I created this blog for my journalism and new media class at Towson University in the Fall of 2009, but I had previously created another blog which is on worpress as well for another new media class which I took over the summer of 2009. The name of that blog is Huber247 if you’d like to check it out.
Where do you get your story ideas from?
Fair question, I use things that I am somewhat familiar with, because if I am going to provide people with information or updates on subjects I’d atleast like to think I know what i’m talking about. For the most part the people, places or teams that I cover are relatively local, and I try to let other people know about what I know.
Will you cover the professional teams more in the future?
That is another tough question, it depends on what context I will be covering the teams. Considering I do not have press credentials to cover the games from a press box and I don’t have access to player and coach interviews, I am limited to mostly editorial columns. If the opportunity presents itself to obtain a closer source to the team for valid information, by all means I will jump on that.
Any advice as to what I can do to get into journalism?
You don’t have to be a college student studying journalism to get involved. There are free blogs, and twitter pages that enable you to get your foot in the door with amatuer reporting. Pursue what you find interesting, post about it, tweet about it. If you can provide credible information, people will respect and hear you. Go for it.
